How to use
- 1
Pick your date of birth; the result updates instantly.
- 2
Read the steps: day, month and year are each reduced to one digit (master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are kept).
- 3
Compare with the second method below it, which adds all eight digits at once.
- 4

How the life path number is calculated
The life path number is the best-known number in Western (Pythagorean-style) numerology and comes only from the birth date. This calculator uses the separate-reduction method: the day, the month and the year are each reduced by adding their digits until one digit remains, then the three results are added and reduced again. For 14 July 1990: 14 → 5, 7 stays 7, 1990 → 19 → 10 → 1, and 5 + 7 + 1 = 13 → 4.
Master numbers 11, 22 and 33
In most modern schools, 11, 22 and 33 are treated as master numbers and not reduced further. The calculator keeps them wherever they appear: a day of 29 becomes 11, a year like 1993 becomes 22, and a final total of 33 stays 33. Because master numbers can appear in one method and not in the other, adding all digits at once sometimes gives a different answer — the tool shows both so you can see exactly why.
Life path, birthday number and the rest of your chart
The birthday number is simply the day of the month, reduced (the 29th gives 11). Numerologists read the life path together with the expression number from your full name and the personal year for timing, which you can calculate with the other numerology tools here. All of it is a symbolic tradition for self-reflection — useful as a prompt for thinking about yourself, not as a forecast.
Frequently asked questions
Why do other calculators give me a different life path number?
There are two common methods. Reducing day, month and year separately (used here) and adding every digit at once agree for most dates but can differ when a master number appears in only one of them. This page shows both calculations side by side.
Is 33 really a life path number?
Yes, in schools that recognise master numbers. It appears when the reduced day, month and year add up to exactly 33, which is rare — about 0.9% of dates between 1950 and 2009 with this method.
Does the time or place of birth matter?
No. The life path uses only the calendar date. If you were born close to midnight, use the date on your birth certificate.
Is my birth date stored anywhere?
Only in your own browser, so other ZodiacKit tools can pre-fill it. Nothing is sent to a server.
